The Seven Deadly Sins: Whose Idea Was This Anyway?

What about the fury I feel when someone is mistreating me but I can't do anything about it?

This excellent question is referring to impotent rage, an important sociopolitical concept. When we are both injured and without power, our resulting rage can feel infantilizing. This is because it evokes memories of those endless childhood years when we had little say over how our lives were designed. The first step, then, in handling this nauseating feeling is to acknowledge the reminiscent nature of it with a bit of a shrug and a bitter laugh. Then get to work figuring out where you do have power. If power is the ability to do, then look to see where there is any little thing you can do in the situation. Because power is assigned by the social and political world within which we all live, it may be that you will need to see the cause of your rage as a social justice issue. If that is the case, try to find like-minded people to join you in your battle to make things better.
